The past few days my good friend has been in town from NYC due to working with a band here. It is great to have him here. We met up for breakfast the first day he got to town and then after that he was working and so was I. Finally we had some free time on a Sunday evening and hung out. I went to the hotel to pick him up and we took a walk along the lakes while drinking a nice Royal Export beer which is one of the strongest beers around. At least I think so. It always seems to do a number on me. By the time we got to the Gefahrlich I was feeling a bit tipsy. When we arrived, there was a private party going on and some of the patrons thought we were crashing it and told us that it was a private party and guests only. I thought that was soo rude. In NYC if they don't want people to crash the party they have lists and if you aren't on the list you aren't allowed in. I was allowed to be there because I was invited by the bartenders who were working and I am an employee so we sorted that out quickly. Pretty much instantly the bartenders came over to our table and gave us cocktails and shots of Fernet Branca which is such an awful shot but I told my friend he needed to experience it. Which we both did about twice. Needless to say we got quite drunk and left the bar around closing time. We then proceeded to walk the same way we came and walked along the lakes. By this time the sun was already up. We almost got to the end of the lake when all of a sudden 3 young guys came up to us demanding money. They were Danish guys probably in their late teens early twenties. My friend and I didn't back down at all. We actually argued with them and I think they were stunned by our reaction. My friend handed over his wallet to the one guy and he was trying to figure out what to take out of it. My friend had 3 different currencies, Danish, Swedish and American. When I saw him being confused I took the wallet out of his hands and gave him about 100 DKK. I can't believe I took the wallet from him like that. Then they saw me trying to find my wallet and took my little makeup bag I had and went through that only to find just makeup. They ended up zipping it back up and giving it to me. Soo crazy. Then all of a sudden two of them pulled out what look like an ice pick sort of tool to poke us with. When I saw that I did get a bit nervous and that was when my friend got up in their face saying we didn't want any trouble. The one guy tried to go at him with the ice pick but was stopped by my friend holding him by his throat. After they realized we weren't backing down and they got what money we had which in total was about $20 they ran off. My friend and I couldn't believe what just happened. We both have lived in NYC for some time and never got mugged in our lives. We come to CPH for a short time and get mugged. I had soo much expensive things on me too. My Ipod, Nikon camera and they could have even taken my bike. I suppose all they cared about was the cash.
My friend and I were in shock about it and a bit shook up and also very happy that nothing bad happened. It could have been a lot worse. I think with us not being sober we would have acted more scared for sure. I believe our reaction really freaked them out. It really did make me realize that no matter where I am I need to be aware of my surroundings because anything can happen anywhere and at anytime. I am very thankful too that my friend handle the situation soo well. We both were unlucky and lucky at the same time that morning.
